42124 disappeared for weeks last year, also the dump PU battery box, both came back after a while. Not sure if it is related to the production shortage, but apparently TLG prefers to simply pull them instead of showing everything as out of stock. PU motors (and even Control+ sets) have a tendency to vanish from for days or even weeks. The updated BI and Bricks & Pieces both show the current motor with the 6290182 ID.
I don't think the Medium motor will be replaced in the set. Possibly, it may have a single (unknown for me) reason. The currently prodused set 42129 Zetros uses this motor amon other modern-PU ones, and now, since the set is under review-redesign to add srews to the battery Block lid locks, this motor may be replaced too. There were some rumors it is going to be possibly replaced.
