The landfill was licensed by the State of Michigan to accept wastes under Act 87 from 1966 to 1974. Prior to a 1965 court order, Walker Landfill reportedly accepted thousands of drums of paint sludge and other wastes related to the automotive industry and disposed in unlined lagoons.
